I want to join a gym but give me your opinions before I commit!?

Theres a gym down the street from where I live, maybe a 5 minute drive. There is no sign up fee but for an individual it costs $44.50/mo. (12 month contract). This includes pool use, steam-room, sauna, cardiovascular equip., strength & toning equip., weight equip., aerobic room/gym, tanning, protein shake bar., and various classes (i.e. pilates, aerobics). I don't need to join a gym because its not that I need to lose weight, however I could probably tighten up a bit. The reason I want to join is because my family has back/neck problems and my grandmother has some major issues because she has never worked out in her life, which is really sad. I don't want to be that way so while I'm young I figure if I start working out I can avoid those problems or at least delay them. So basically I'm joining to stay in good health. My question is do you think this is a good deal? Theres a YMCA 15 minutes away, I haven't really looked into it but it may be $5-10 cheaper, should I do that instead or should I stick with the gym close by?
